mp3 player

The free downloading revolution has captured today's youth through the increased commonality of high-speed Internet connections. Dependent on the speed of your connection to the World Wide Web, you can download MP3 files in a matter of seconds. MP3 converters, CD burning software, and large-scale networks such as Napster, Kazaa and Gnutella, have made it incredibly easy for the average Internet/Computer user to compile listings of their favorite music and transfer it into an audio CD format for use in most standard CD players. A sign of the times, most stereo CD players, DVD players, etc. are capable of playing MP3 CDs due to the increased commonality. Whereas 10 years ago if you were talking about MP3s, people would have no idea what you were talking about, today, those unaware of MP3s are in the extreme minority.

So now that you've downloaded MP3 files from the Internet, how do you go about playing them? Enter the MP3 player. When you say MP3 player, most people are going to immediately think of portable digital music players, however the first MP3 players consisted of software programs such as Winamp and Windows Media Player through which you can listen to your MP3s. MP3 players have become so common that many cars are now fitted with MP3 compatible CD players. Audio CDs are generally of WAV file type, which is quite large. MP3s are much smaller files than WAVs, so whereas a CD might contain 20 WAV files, the same CD might hold 200 MP3's.

This same trend is seen in MP3 players themselves. Whereas Rio players (portable MP3 player innovator) used to be the most popular brand, most tech companies now offer MP3 players of their own, producing a large list of providers ranging from Sony, Samsung and RCA, to Nomad and Archos. Apple Computer systems have recently gained the stronghold that Rio once held over the MP3 market through their innovative I-Pod digital music player. The I-Pod MP3 player can be viewed as a portable hard-drive, capable of holding anywhere from 4 GB (Mini iPod) to 40 GB of MP3s and other file types. When you consider that most computers have hard drive capacities of approximately 20 GB, a 40 GB portable unit boggles the mind. With 40 GB, you can store every song you've ever owned or even listened to, and you'd still have plenty of space left over. MP3s and MP3 players are the future of music technologies. The technology continues to evolve, producing larger storage capacities and more features at smaller sizes and weights. The current minimalist trend that is sweeping consumer culture is leading to a point where one's cell phone will eventually act as phone, PDA, MP3 player, digital camera and personal computer.

If you're in the market for an MP3 player, the first thing you should do is use the Internet to your advantage and search through all the different providers and mp3 types so as to find the exact player to fit your needs. Prices tend to range from $100 for the lower rung of players up to $400 for the most hi-tech, cutting edge players. Currently, the most expensive available MP3 players are portable entertainment centers that support MP4 video file types so that you can not only listen to music, but watch T.V or movies as well when you're on the go.
